COACHING OPPORTUNITY FOR FORMER NFL PLAYERS

The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) have partnered to provide an opportunity for former NFL players to gain valuable experience in the coaching profession through the NFLPA Coaching Internship Program. Retired players will be selected to serve as coaching interns at Division II and Division III institutions for an entire football season (including training camp).

Many individuals who have participated in this program have gone on to secure full time coaching positions at every level. This is a great opportunity to add a meaningful coaching experience to a resume and develop professional relationships with established coaches.

Please read below for more details.

TO APPLY, submit:

  • Resume
  • 3 recommendation letters (personal and/or professional)
  • Cover Letter (addressing desire to coach, interest in the program or career change, and skills and abilities that would make you a good coach)

DUE DATE: Friday, May 25, 2012

Additional Background Info:

Applicants will be appointed to a Division II or Division III football program that best meets the interests and qualifications of the applicant and the needs and interests of the host institution. Geographic location will be considered when possible.

Host institutions are responsible for (1) providing a positive, quality experience for the intern coach, (2) supplying intern with housing and meals from his initial report date through the end of training camp (after the conclusion of training camp, the host institution is not required to provide housing or meals throughout the season), and (3) completing an intern evaluation to be returned to the NFLPA at the end of the season.

Coaching interns are expected to (1) arrive on the start date determined by the head coach, (2) remain with the host institution from start date through the entire season, (3) contribute to the football program in any way possible as determined by the head coach and the coaching staff, and (4) complete an evaluation to be returned to the NFLPA at the end of the season.

Please be aware that this is an UNPAID internship. Every effort will be made to help selected interns negotiate additional support from the host institution to offset expenses, but there is no guarantee.

Interns will be assigned no later than July 18th and are expected to contact the head coach to determine start date.

About Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago directly supported thousands of families last year by providing emergency financial assistance to cover expenses such as rent, utilities, food, medical costs, and transportation. As our staff help these working poor families meet their immediate financial needs, their underlying problems often come to the surface. Those that seek our care struggle with poverty, poor living conditions and homelessness, unemployment, and limited education.

Holiday Heroes Foundation Fundraiser

The Holiday Heroes Foundation was formed to provide children suffering from serious illnesses an opportunity to have an “everyday life experience”. HHF takes care of kids with serious illness on their birthdays/holidays and brighten up their day. Some of these kids have been hospitalized for months, and HHF brings them a bit of hope on special days. HHF provides them with signed autograph memorabilia, gifts, presents, and brighten up their day for a moment to allow them to forget about their worries for a day.

Join more than 250 of Chicago’s most “networked” business leaders, our generous sponsors, and sports celebrities – such as Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins, Revie Sorey and more – in support of Holiday Heroes Foundation and our mission to bring holiday celebrations and birthday parties to long-term hospitalized children and their families!

Date: Friday, June 29th, 2012
Time: 6pm - 10pm
Location: 131 South Dearborn St. (30th Fl) Chicago, IL 60603
